Darryl's thoughts on the Christian Faith, Facts, and World Events
There are 130 million different books in the world today. How can we be sure that the Bible is the only book that is the Word of God?
First of all, the Bible claims to be the Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training and training righteousness.” Most other books do not claim to come from God, so we can eliminate them from consideration. Second, the Bible has 66 books written down by 40 different authors over 1,500 years. It was even written in three different languages and yet it has one unified message. Skeptics have looked for contradictions but they have not found any. Some of these skeptics have come to believe that the Bible is God’s Word while searching for contradictions. On the other hand, the sacred books of other religions are based on the teachings and writings of only one man who had a vision or spiritual experience. Which is more reliable, the testimony of only one man or 40 independent witnesses who experienced God in the same way? Third, there are around 2,000 prophecies in the Bible. No other religious book compares to the number and accuracy of the prophecies in the Bible. For example, in Islam, there were no prophecies about Mohammad’s future birth, nor did Mohammed ever prophesy of a future event. On the other hand there are around 191 prophecies and references in the Old Testament that were fulfilled in the life of Jesus. When we compare the Bible to the 130 million other books in the world the Bible is the only book that can be the Word of God.
